Villiers and Flanagan to meet on Stormont stalemate

The UK's Northern Secretary will meet Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan later to discuss the stalemate at Stormont.

The talks with Charlie Flanagan (pictured) will be one of a series of engagements Theresa Villiers is planning today on the situation, while she is also due to deliver an update to the House of Commons.

Northern Ireland's First Minister yesterday insisted there would be no more meetings of the power-sharing government until the controversy surrounding the IRA and its alleged links to a murder in Belfast is resolved.

Peter Robinson has said the Assembly will not carry on as if it's "business as usual".

"What we are saying is business will not take place as normal until there is a resolution of the outstanding issues," he said.

"So if we were to go into talks and allow things to go on as normal, as the Ulster Unionist Party would have us do, then in effect we would be endorsing the position that has been adopted by Sinn Féin," he added.
