Vigil for Cork student Karen Buckley, one year after her death in Glasgow

A vigil will be held in Glasgow today to mark one year since Cork student Karen Buckley was murdered in the city.

Ms Buckley, 24, had been attending university there when she went missing on a night out with friends on April 12 last year. She was murdered by Alexander Pacteau, who is serving a life sentence for her death. Her body was found on a farm four days after she went missing.

Former classmates and teachers will gather for a private ceremony at Glasgow Caledonian University later to remember the 24-year-old nurse. Karen was in Scotland to train as an occupational therapist in the university's School of Health and Life Sciences.

The ceremony will be attended by university staff and Karen's former classmates.

An anniversary Mass will also take place in Mourneabbey in north Cork on Friday.
