Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating an assault in Cork city centre in which a motionless man was beaten with what seems to be a crutch as he lay on the ground.
A video of the attack surfaced on social media after it was sent to the Neil Prendeville show on Cork’s Red FM by a contributer who signed themselves “a concerned parent”.
Red FM forwarded the video to the Gardaí, who are investigating. Three people have been arrested.
Gardaí confirmed they attended the scene of a public order incident on the city’s Grand Parade on Monday night and arrested three males - two juveniles and one male in his late teens.
The city’s Lord Mayor Des Cahill told the Evening Echo: “Three people have been arrested for what can only be described as an horrific assault...Fighting should not have any place in the city centre, or anywhere.”
