Victim's father 'overjoyed' after teen murderer sentenced

A 19-year-old is to serve a life sentence for murdering another teenager, who he stabbed to death in Dublin two years ago.

Marcus Kirwan of Cooley Road, Drimnagh was accused of luring his victim, David Byrne, into a fatal ambush in Inchicore by sending text messages pretending to be a girl.

It took the jury just more than four hours to return a unanimous guilty verdict at the Central Criminal Court.

The victim's father David Hayes has expressed satisfaction with the verdict:

"Overjoyed," he said. "I'm delighted. I've been waiting for this day for a long, long time and justice has been done now.

"I'm very, very happy."
