US plane diverted to Dublin as crew fall ill

A US Airways flight was diverted to Dublin Airport today, amid reports that the crew onboard had fallen ill.

The plane was on its way from Venice to Philadelphia at the time.

The flight was grounded shortly after 3pm after several members of the crew reported being sick.

Airport police, fire and emergency services were on standby as the plane came down and it is now being held at a remote location at the airport.

All passengers have dis-embarked and are being put up in a hotel overnight by the airline.

The HSE is to launch an investigation.

UPDATE: The HSE has denied reports that they issued a public health alert when the plane was diverted to Dublin Airport.

The health authority has confirmed that an ambulance was on standby when the US Airways flight landed and nine people were taken to Beaumount hospital for observation.
