Unite: Govt threat 'a disgraceful attempt' to influence union ballot
Threats by the Government to get public sector workers to agree to the new Croke Park deal won't work, according to the Unite trade union.
The union's comments come after the Transport Minister Leo Varadkar said yesterday the Government will not give special concessions to unions who walked out of the new Croke Park talks last week.
Four unions left talks - the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, the Irish Medical Organisation, the Civil Public and Services Union and Unite.
Both the INMO and Unite have said they condemn the threat made by Government to punish workers that reject the proposals.
Unite regional secretary Jimmy Kelly said: "Workers now in places where there is multi-unions will start now showing solidarity with each other and it won't be acceptable that there is less of a cut on somebody who might be in favour of this plan and more of a cut imposed on a worker against the plan.
"I don't think it is realistic and I think it is a disgraceful attempt to infleunce a ballot."
