The trade union Unite has called for an increase in the minimum wage.

Unite wants the payment to be brought up to €9.20, a rise of 55 cents.

The trade union claims workers on the minimum wage have suffered a real pay cut of nearly 10% since 2007 when increased taxation is taken into account.

Unite also says the value of the National Minimum Wage after inflation has fallen by 6%.
