Unions and management in new talks to avert rail strike
Unions and management at Irish Rail will return to the talks table today in an effort to avert Friday's train strike.
Train drivers are due to down tools for three hours at the start of the Bank Holiday weekend this Friday morning.
Talks collapsed in the early hours of Saturday morning and now the Workplace Relations Commission has called both sides back in the hopes of finding a resolution.
Dermot O'Leary of the National Bus and Rail Union disagreement remains on payments for past productivity.
"We certainly don't want to be discommoding the public," he said.
"It's unfortunate, I suppose, that the talks didn't conclude last Friday night/Saturday morning, and bring some surety to passengers
"But our focus here will be getting a proposal for our members that may, hopefully, if it's the right type of proposal, it may prevent industrial action, and one would hope that passengers would not be discommoded."
