Progressive Unionist Party leader David Ervine remains in a critical condition in the Royal Victoria hospital in Belfast tonight.

It had been reported by media outlets that Mr Ervine had died, but this cannot be confirmed at this time.

A statement from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast confirmed Mr Ervine was in a critical condition.

“He is currently in the intensive care unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital and remains critically ill,” the statement said.

“His family have asked that their privacy is respected this evening and will make a statement in due course but not before tomorrow.”
