The Communications Workers Union has today welcomed a move by the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications inviting Vodafone to appear before them.
Workers at a third-party contractor are in a dispute with Vodafone, regarding the relocation of hundreds of jobs from Dublin and Dundalk in Co Louth to Newry, Co Down.
The Communications Committee said it was acting on foot of a request by 15 Oireachtas members, who would like Vodafone to explain the decisions its taken over the last 12 months, including the decision to send a further 140 jobs overseas.
Vodafone has invited employees to transfer to teleperformance under their existing terms and conditions, but said that it recognises that not every employee can relocate to Newry.
