The Union of Students in Ireland is calling on homeowners to consider renting rooms to students.

There is a severe shortage of student accommodation in some areas, particularly in Dublin and Maynooth, with many forced to book hostels for this September in order to ensure they have a roof over their heads.

The USI says the crisis has reached boiling point and the Government needs to act immediately as thousands are due to get their leaving cert results this day week.
