UCD has said it is not found evidence of a revenge porn campaign on its campus.
The university launched an investigation after the College Tribune alleged that a student Facebook group, made up of over 200 men, was sharing pictures of girls, some of whom they had slept with.
The newspaper printed the claims last week saying the group was made up predominantly of Agricultural Science students.
In a statement tonight UCD has said its investigation, chaired by Deputy President and Registrar Professor Mark Rogers, has found the claims to be unsubstantiated.
“The evidence cited in the article was based on hearsay from anonymous comments on Yik Yak by a quoted source to the College Tribune,” Rogers said in a statement.
“I further find that the editor and reporter of the article were aware that the source quoted in the article was basing her information on hearsay. The claims in the article have been fully investigated and have been found to be unsubstantiated.”
