Two males aged 16 and 17 have been arrested by gardaí investigating an assault in Dublin on St Patrick's Day.

The two were arrested in the Dublin 2 area this evening in connection with the assault on a 30-year-old Brazilian student on Aston Quay in the city on Monday, March 17.

The alleged assault prompted outrage on social media platforms after footage of the incident, filmed by an onlooker at the scene, went viral on Tuesday night.

The two arrested males are being held under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Pearse Street Garda Station.
