Gardaí in Athlone investigating two serious assaults in the town have arrested two more people.
A taxi driver in his 70s was stabbed in the early hours of Tuesday morning after picking up two males on Church Street in the town.
While on Tuesday evening, three youths armed with a firearm and an iron bar threatened and assaulted a shop keeper in his seventies at a business on the Ballymahon Road.
Three teenage boys in their late teens were arrested yesterday, one has since been released without charge.
Gardaí arrested a further two teenage boys last night and in the early hours of this morning.
They are all being held at Athlone Garda Station.
