Two people have died in road accidents in Dublin overnight.

They happened in Fairview and just outside Brittas.

A woman in her 20s died, when the car which she was a passenger in collided with a pole in Fairview, at the Malahide road junction, at around 1.50am this morning.

Three others in the car at the time were taken to hospital with serious injuries. One of them, a 26-year-old man, is said to be in a critical condition.

Elsewhere, a 21-year-old man has been killed in a single-vehicle crash on the N81 just outside Brittas.

The man died when the car he and four other men were travelling in collided with a tree at around 2.40am this morning.

The four others - ranging in age from 19 to 22 - were taken to hospital, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
