Two men were charged in Belfast today with possessing explosives.

The pair, aged 25 and 38, are due to appear at a court in the city tomorrow, according to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

It is understood they were detained on the outskirts of west Belfast yesterday during a security alert in the Lagmore area where a number of items, including a suspected pipe bomb, were taken away for examination.

A third man, aged 27, who was also detained at the time, has been released unconditionally.
