Two burnt-out cars, post mortem and witness accounts key to Aidan O'Driscoll murder, say gardaí
Gardaí investigating the murder of father-of-two Aidan 'The Beast' O'Driscoll in Cork say it is too early to speculate who was responsible for his shooting.
The 37-year old former Real IRA chief was shot three times as he was walking along Commons Road in Blackpool at 5pm yesterday.
The road remains sealed off for a forensic examination but gardaí expect it to reopen after lunchtime.
A silver grey Nissan Almeira car and a white Vauxhall Astra van were later found burnt out at Redemption Road and in Killeens. These will form a major part of the investigation, as will the results of a post mortem being carried out this afternoon.
Superintendent Michael Comyns said witnesses and information from the public would be key to resolving the murder of Aidan O'Driscoll, who was engaged to be married.
The Ballyvolane native had links to the Real IRA and this will also form a major part of the investigation.
Superintendent Comyn said: "We're looking for anybody who was in this area yesterday from 4pm onwards to contact us (on 021 4522000) . This is a very busy area at that time of the evening.
"We have to keep an open mind. It's really early in the investigation. Mr O'Driscoll is a son and a father and we will be using all of our resources to solve this."
Anyone with information is being reminded that everything they say to gardaí will be held in the strictest of confidence.
