Two arrested over bodies found on island lake

Gardaí have arrested two men in connection with the investigation into the murder of two Dublin men whose bodies were found on an island in Co Meath last month.

Eoin O'Connor (32) and Anthony Keegan (33) were reported missing on April 22 last, and their bodies were discovered on Lough Sheelin in Co Meath on May 26.

Earlier this month, hundreds of people attended the joint funeral mass of the two men.

Just over a week beforehand, Garda divers found their bodies covered in plastic sheeting on Inchicup Island on Lough Sheelin.

They had been reported missing after leaving Dublin on April 22. It is believed they were killed after travelling to Cavan to collect a drug debt.

Their families became concerned when the two friends stopped answering their phones that day.

A double murder investigation was launched. As part of their inquiries, gardaí arrested two men in the Cavan area today.

The pair, who are aged in their 20s and 30s, are both being held at Kells garda station for questioning.
