Two and a half years for drug addict who killed woman with car

A drug addict who killed a woman after his car mounted a footpath on Middle Abbey Street in Dublin has been jailed for two and a half years.

Philip Trimble of Oscar Traynor Road, Santry pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of 56-year-old Frances McCarthy in January 2013.

She had been out shopping with her sister at the time and she died in hospital shortly after being knocked down.

In an emotional victim impact report read out in court, her husband described how life without his "best friend and soul mate" is "truly awful".
