Time to wind down Lansdowne Road Agreement, says TEEU

One of the country's largest unions has said that the Lansdowne Road Agreement has run its course.

The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU) - which represents craft and construction workers - will debate the agreement, and discuss pay and precarious employment in a conference over the next two days.

It comes as Siptu said it will ballot its members if the government does not agree to a new round of pay talks.

TEEU general secretary Paddy Kavanagh said that the Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (FEMPI) legislation needs to be wound down and pay cuts need to be restored.

"The circumstances that required those agreements and the FEMPI legislation is gone - even in light of the Brexit extra developments, the predictions are for continued growth," he said.

"So what we're saying is: when those agreements are negotiated there was a set of circumstances that dictated those agreements.

"Now those circumstances have radically changed.

"And by the way it’s in those agreements that should they radically change, either party could revisit those agreements."
