Three people have been arrested following an armed robbery at a service station in Cork city.

Two masked men armed with knives held up staff at a service station on Leitrim St at 8.20pm this evening and stole a quantity of cash. The men left the scene in a car which was driven by another man and had a female passenger.

A Garda car patrolling in the area stopped the car and arrested three occupants, a woman and two men ranging in ages from late 20s to mid 40s.

A fourth person, a man, escaped on foot. Gardaí recovered knives, balaclavas and cash in the car.

The three people arrested are currently detained at Mayfield and Gurranabraher Garda Station, under section 4 of the criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The scene at the filling station is preserved for technical examination and the car has been seized for examination.
