Gardaí have arrested three men in connection with a fire in Drogheda, Co Louth, which left a woman in her 70s injured.
At approximately 1am last night, emergency services responded to a house fire at Cord Road in Drogheda. A woman in her 70s had been asleep in the house when the fire broke out, but was rescued by a local man in his 30s who brought her to safety.
Both the man and the woman were taken to hospital from the scene, where the woman's injuries are believed to be serious. The man's condition is described as non life threatening.
Gardaí arrested three males this evening - two in their 30s and one in his 40s - as part of the investigation into the incident.
The actions of the unidentified man have been praised by locals, with councillor Kenneth Flood describing him as the hero of the hour. "If it wasn't for his actions at the time, it could have been a lot worse," he said.
It's believed the man's injuries, while not serious, were from contact with flames and smoke inhalation.
