Thousands take part in Dublin mini-marathon

Barbara Cleary from Donore Harriers is the winner of this year's Flora Women's Mini Marathon in Dublin, passing the finish line this afternoon with a time of 34 minutes 7 seconds.

Around 40,000 women were participating in the 10km this afternoon.

Last year's event raised more than €12m for 700 different charities.

Motorists are advised there will be some diversions in place until 6pm.

"Over 90% of the women participating today will be doing it to raise money for a charity," said spokesperson Muireann Fitzmaurice.

"There is also an element of doing it for a personal challenge.

"Some women will be trying to run or walk it in a certain time, while others will have overcome illness and will be using the event as a way to celebrate their return to health."
