The funeral of murdered Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe takes place in Co Louth today.
Thousands of mourners are expected at St Joseph’s Redemptorist Church in Lordship for the state funeral, including the Taoiseach, the President and the Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.
The married father of two was shot dead during a raid on the Lordship Credit Union in Dundalk last Friday night while on escort duty.
The 41-year-old was originally from Co Cavan but was stationed in Dundalk and lived in Lordship.
The Dáil will be suspended for a number of hours to allow the Taoiseach Enda Kenny, the Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore and other Cabinet members to attend the funeral.
Adrian Donohoe is survived by his wife Caroline, who is also a Garda, and his two young children Niall and Amy.
He will be laid to rest in Lordship cemetery following funeral mass at 12.30pm today.
