The idea we will all sit down and hold hands in the Dáil is ridiculous, says Doherty

Sinn Féin's Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty believes the current government will last for less than two years.

The Opposition party said that it does not have faith in the arrangement between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.

Fine Gael is relying on Fianna Fáil to support its minority government, by abstaining in Dáil votes.

Sinn Féin said that it does not think that a radical shift in Irish politics has taken place since the last General Election to allow the historically rival parties to co-operate effectively with each other.

Sinn Féin's Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty said when he thought voters would be going back to the polls.

"I think that would probably be within a year, year-and-a-half," he said.

"The reality is, I think, that we expect there will be an election within a short period of time.

"I don't believe the sincerity of Fianna Fáil in relation to this issue, I don't believe the politics is all changed, I don't think that's the case.

"There's huge political and ideological issues that have to be debated, and will continue to be debated.

"The idea that we will all sit down and hold hands around the Dáil Chamber is ridiculous."
