Preliminary test results are due to today following a foot-and-mouth scare at an abattoir in the North.

Lesions that could be a sign of the disease have been found on the feet of a pig at the slaughterhouse in Co Antrim.

Authorities have responded by imposing restrictions on the movement of animals at the abbatoir and the farm from which the pig originated.

Officials fear the symptoms could be a sign of foot-and-mouth disease, which caused severe restrictions on livestock movement across Ireland and Britain in 2001.
