A young man who was knocked down in a hit-and-run as he walked across a pedestrian crossing in Tallaght, Dublin has settled his High Court action for €50,000.

Aaron Ryan was lawfully crossing at the pedestrian crossing on Fortunestown Road, Tallaght, Dublin on November 13, 2013, when he was struck by a car which remains untraced and unidentified.

His case brought by his mother Aishling Ryan was against the Motor Insurers Bureau of Ireland.

He claimed the untraced motorist was driving in a careless or dangerous manner and failed to yield right of way or to maintain proper control of the vehicle.

Michael Bryne SC for Aaron from Kiltalawn Road, Tallaght, Dublin said the young man had made a remarkable recovery and is now at university.

He said at the time the boy who was 13 years of age suffered multiple soft tissue injuries and also suffered some headaches afterwards.

Counsel said the boy, who suffered flashbacks of the accident in the immediate aftermath went on to do a very well at school is now studying at third level.

Approving the settlement to Aaron who is now nearly 18 years of age, Mr Justice Kevin Cross said it was a very good settlement and he was delighted to see Aaron had made such a good recovery.
