The leader of the Green Party is calling on the Taoiseach to make a public statement about his financial affairs following yesterday's adjournment of the Mahon Tribunal until after the general election.
The tribunal was due to hear evidence relating to money Bertie Ahern allegedly received in the 1990's from developer Owen O'Callaghan.
It also emerged yesterday that the inquiry is looking into a Stg £30,000 (€44,000) cash payment Mr Ahern's former partner, Celia Larkin, received from businessman Michael Wall in 1994.
The money was used to fund work on a house in Drumcondra that the couple were renting from Mr Wall.
Green Party leader Trevor Sargent says the electorate needs a proper explanation of these matters before they go to the polls in three weeks' time.
However, Mr Ahern refused to answer questions on the issue when pressed in Dublin today.
He said he would not be commenting further until asked to explain the situation at the tribunal itself.
