The Taoiseach Enda Kenny is attending an extraordinary EU meeting of leaders in Brussels.
The final EU jobs and the formation of the European Presidency will dominate discussions.
The three top jobs to be decided, the President of the European Council, the Eurogroup president and the High Commissioner on Foreign Policy will be discussed today.
The European People's Party, the grouping that FG belongs to, likely to take at least one role.
Ireland has nominated former minister Phil Hogan as the next commissioner, and at the margin of the summit the Taoiseach will discuss with president elect of the European Commission, Jean Claude Juncker, the likely portfolio the State will be assigned.
A lack of female nominees is an issue however, and Mr Juncker has pledged to address this with member states, later today.
