Taoiseach not expected as Web Summit begins today

The 2015 Web Summit begins today, with more than 30,000 people expected at the RDS over the next three days.

Dell founder Michael Dell, Instagram founder Mike Krieger and President of Pixar & Disney animation Ed Catmull are among those attending.

They will be joined by Stripe founder - Limerick man John Collison - and a host of other big names between now and Thursday.

There are nine stages hosting events throughout the day, covering the latest issues affecting technology, sport, the media, enterprise and society.

It has been a stormy build up to Web Summit 2015 with the news that the event will move to Lisbon from next year.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny's invite to the event was only sent after 9pm last Friday - asking him to confirm by Sunday afternoon.

Organisers had previously complained that Government officials were slow to respond to correspondence from them.

The Taoiseach and most government Ministers now will not be in attendance at the event.
