The Taoiseach has confirmed the coalition accepts an ESRI report and will not proceed with their long-standing plan for Universal Health Insurance.
Enda Kenny has said the Government is still committed to Universal Healthcare, paid for by universal insurance, but on a more affordable basis.
There have been rowdy scenes in the Dáil with Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin accusing Mr Kenny of saying anything to get elected, adding that the truth does not matter.
And the Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has said it is another broken promise from the Government.
Mr Adams said:“Will you resign? Will you resign on this issue, isn’t to time to admit that your five point plan was actually a five point sham.
Mr Kenny responded: “When we came from the economic mess that the last crowd left us with, to produce a health system that will end the two tier system and that will have Universal Healthcare for everybody.”
