The Tánaiste Mary Coughlan has moved to clarify comments she made in the Dáil earlier regarding the McCarthy report.

During an exchange with Labour leader Eamon Gilmore today, Minister Coughlan said that some of the recommendations contained within the Bord Snip report do not make sense.

Speaking in Cork this afternoon, the Tánaiste said the report is just part of an overall process on ways to slash spending.

She said that, if the Government does not accept Colm McCarthy's proposals, they will have to find savings elsewhere in this year’s Budget.
