Talks to avoid electrician's strike begin

Talks aimed at avoiding the electricians strike get underway at the Labour Relations Commission today.

Members of the TEEU have voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action, which is currently scheduled for two weeks' time.

Among a number of issues, electricians are looking for a 5% pay rise.

They claim they never received a 4.9% increase due to them under a 2009 Labour Court recommendation.

Eamon Devoy of the TEEU said "the only way out of this is if the employers see sense and back off."
