A new survey has shown 82% of people agree that the Government should introduce a tax on wealth.

The MRBI poll was carried out on behalf of the Community Platform , which is made up of a number of organisations including Age Action Ireland, the Traveller Movement and the Simon Community.

The Community Platform is calling for the wealth tax to be imposed on people who have net assets exceeding €1m or incomes of over €100,000.

It estimates a tax of 1% per cent could generate more than €500m a year for the Exchequer.
