Supermacs chief blasts 'no fry zone' plan as Govt spin

The head of fast food chain Supermacs, Pat McDonagh, has hit back at the Government's plans for a "no fry zone" around schools and playgrounds.

The proposals came to light yesterday as research revealed that a quarter of Irish 11-year-olds are now clinically obese.

Mr McDonagh says that if outlets like his own are banned within 1.5 kilometres of schools - then bars, sweet shops and cafes should also be subject to the order.

The businessman says the proposal is Government "spin", and is distracting from the "real issues" affecting the country, like crime and drug use.
