Stricken trawler rescued off Wexford coast

A major rescue operation was launched today after a fishing vessel began taking on water off the Wexford coast.

The alarm was raised at about 12.30pm by three crew on board the Carol Louise trawler, one mile off Curracloe.

Salvage pumps were lowered to the crew from the Coast Guard rescue helicopter and RNLI lifeboat from Rosslare, stemming the intake of water.

The vessel was escorted back to Kilmore Quay, where it is registered, by the RNLI.

No-one was injured during the incident.
