Storm Desmond continues with status yellow weather alerts
Many of the areas affected by the worst of Storm Desmond will be hit by more bad weather today.
Met Eireann has issued another weather warning - a status yellow alert is in place for Connacht, Donegal Clare and Kerry.
Clare County Council has requested the help of the army with winds of up to 100 km per hour forecast.
Members of the defence forces have been deployed to Castleconnell and Mountpellier in Co Limerick, where households are on high alert of further flooding.
For several days now people living in South-East Clare have been stranded after the flood water struck.
Sean Hogan is chair of the National Coordination Group: “There is a real danger that the sides of roads may have collapsed, our advice is fairly ambiguous on this one, do not drive through floods.”
The army has deployed to Castleconnell and Mountpellier in County Limerick which also lie on the Banks of the Shannon, to lay sandbags at homes and businesses.
In 2009 many living along the perilous strand of the Shannon were evacuated from their homes and accommodated in hotels after flash floods struck.
With the current flood waters likely to increase, more rain is forecast, the likelihood of more evacuations is looming.
