Some Croke Park residents 'want Obama to intervene in Brooks controversy'

Dublin's Lord Mayor says that some residents living near Croke Park have contacted the US Embassy asking the US President Barack Obama to intervene in the Garth Brooks' debacle.

Christy Burke says they would like President Obama to speak with the country star and try and convince him to perform at Croke Park.

Last night, the Taoiseach intervened in the controversy and urged Dublin City Manager Owen Keegan and Dublin's Lord Mayor to meet with the Chief Executive of the Labour Relations Commission today to try and see if all five Croke Park concerts can be salvaged.

Enda Kenny has ruled out introducing emergency legislation, but Mr Burke says there is still a possibility that Mr Keegan could review the conditions of the licensing agreement.

The press office in the US Embassy in Dublin later issued a statement saying: "We aren't aware of any communicatios with the Embassy by residents of the Croke Park area and if they were to contact us we'd say that was a matter for the local authorities and the private parties involved."
