Social Justice Ireland is calling on the Government to incentivise the kind of jobs that allow workers to achieve a decent standard of living.
In its Quarterly Employment Monitor published today, the organisation criticises the €500m subsidy the Government gives the accommodation sector, saying it mainly benefits international hotel chains that are making huge profits.
Director of Social Justice Ireland Dr. Sean Healy (pictured) says there are better ways to spend that money.
"That half billion euro could be used in a much better way. For example, build social houses," he said.
For the €500m you could build 2,500-3,000 social housing units in the country.
That certainly would go some distance towards dealing with the homelessness crisis that we have at the moment where there's 10,000 people living in homelessness.
