The sister of a Limerick man who was killed in the US earlier this year has said she is relieved that an appeal over the custody of her niece and nephew went in her family's favour yesterday.
39-year-old Jason Corbett died during a domestic incident at his home in North Carolina on August 2.
His wife, Molly Martens, and her father are described as “persons of interest” in his death.
In August, a US judge ruled that Jason's children - who are both Ms Marten's step children - should return to Ireland in the care of Jason's family.
Ms Martens appealed this decision, but a judge ruled against her yesterday.
Speaking to Live 95 from the US, Jason's sister Tracey Lynch has said her family are not celebrating.
“We have to return to Christmas spirit and festive cheer, and put on a brave face, smile, dress the tree and plan a Christmas without Jason with the children,” said Lynch.
“We all went to the panto last year with friends and family, and all wore Christmas jumpers. Jason left his with me, ‘for next year’ he said, and he’ll never wear that again.”
