SIPTU is holding an emergency meeting of its members in Aer Lingus this morning, as a row over pensions at the company looks like it may go to the Labour Relations Commission.
Yesterday IBEC and ICTU released a joint statement calling for a resumption of talks and a suspension of threatened strike action.
The union’s Aer Lingus pension committee will meet this morning to discuss an IBEC/ICTU five-point plan aimed at resolving a dispute at the airline.
Yesterday, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and the Employers body IBEC issued a joint statement in which they invited the Labour Relations Commission to engage with all parties involved in the dispute as soon as possible.
In response to the statement, Aer Lingus said it was willing to re-enter talks.
The airline also welcomed the recommendation that the union groups withdraw the notice of industrial action against the airline on November 19, but said there is no certainty that agreement will be reached.
The Transport Minister Leo Varadkar has welcomed the latest developments and has urged all side to reach a "balanced and sustainable solution".
