Sinn Féin has agreed to back proposals made by US diplomat Richard Haass.
The party met in Dublin this afternoon to discuss the ongoing talks aimed at solving some of the North's most contentious issues.
Party leader Gerry Adams says the key to finding an agreement will be for "civic society to engage".
"Our view ... is that the parties who have not come out and supported these proposals are out of step with the majority of opinion," he said.
"So part of getting to the point of implementation is for civic society to engage, is for all of those people who have a vested interest across the island … to have their say."
