Sides agree deal on Emergency Department overcrowding after 19 hours

An agreement has been reached between the HSE and the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation on Emergency Department overcrowding.

It follows 19 hours of talks at the Workplace Relations Commission.

The deal includes a number of provisions to deal with trolley numbers and overcrowding, and both sides will return to the WRC in a month's time to check what progress has been made.

The INMO will meet later today to discuss whether or not a planned strike by nurses at seven hospitals around the country on Thursday will be called off.
