Campaign body ShellToSea is planning to hold a commemoration march at Shell’s proposed Bellanaboy refinery site in Co Mayo this morning.
It is to mark the 12th anniversary of the state execution of Nigerian writer Ken Saro-Wiwa and his eight comrades, who the organisation described as high profile opponents of Shell’s environmental destruction of their homeland.
A spokesman for the group said: “This anniversary is a significant global day of solidarity, and ShellToSea calls on all fair-minded people to remember the communities who suffer at the hands of oil companies and their projects around the world.”
