Shannon Airport join airline staff strike

SIPTU members at the Shannon Airport Authority have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action in a dispute over their troubled pension scheme.

The union's membership in Aer Lingus also backed industrial action today, while SIPTU workers at the Dublin Airport Authority yesterday voted 89% in favour of striking.

The row was caused by restructuring a pension scheme that is jointly operated by Aer Lingus and the DAA.

The scheme has a deficit of almost €800m and workers fear their benefits will be greatly reduced by changes to the scheme.
