The Taoiseach has led emotional tributes in the Dáil to the former junior minister Shane McEntee.
Mr McEntee, who was a TD for Meath East died on December 21 last. His wife Kathleen and children were present today to hear tributes from across the political divide.
Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney said Shane McEntee's work in that department must be remembered, and said he hoped everyone reflected on the circumstances that led to Shane's death.
He said: "I hope that we as a house, and those who cover the work that we do, will think about what happened and the circumstances that drove Shane to this tragedy for him and his family, and that we will learn some lessons from him, and his personality, and his decency."
Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said Shane was a committed politician and a friend.
"To his family, I offer deepest condolences," he said. "In these difficult days, I hope they can draw some comfort from knowing that Shane was held in the highest of respect in this house.
"He served us country with distinction. He was a lovely man."
