Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe has been asked to help in a renewed bid to clamp down on penalty points abuses.
Sergeant McCabe has made a fresh round of allegations that the system is still being abused by some members of the Gardaí, after he was given information by other officers.
He has now been asked to assist the Garda Professional Standard Unit in their work on the issue, while senior management and the Garda Ombudsman are also looking into the claims.
Sergeant McCabe's original claims of points being wrongly deleted were upheld by the Guerin report earlier this year.
Special Correspondent with the Irish Examiner Mick Clifford says it is alleged that the reasons given for wrongly deleting points this time around are different.
Mr Clifford said: "The last time the excuses were all exotic, and this is something that would have made it quite obvious that there had been abuse going on.
"But what seems to have happened is that the type of excuses have been massaged to ensure that, were there to be an audit, they wouldn't really be detected."
