Security guard sprayed in face with chemical, stabbed

Gardaí are examining CCTV footage from a shopping centre in north Dublin following an attack on a security guard last night.

The man was rushed to hospital after he was burned with an (as yet) unknown chemical and stabbed just after 9pm.

The victim of the attack was working at the Northside Shopping Centre.

At around 9.10pm last night, he was sprayed in the face with the chemical and stabbed at least once in the leg.

He was rushed to Beaumont hospital where his injuries were described as non-life threatening.

It is believed he was overpowered with pepper spray but gardaí will have to await the results of some tests to see whether that was the chemical used.

In the meantime, they are harvesting CCTV footage from the area to see whether the attack was caught on video. They are also appealing for witnesses to come forward.
