The search for a teenager who fell into the River Suir in Waterford over the weekend is due to resume at first light this morning.

The 18-year-old reportedly jumped into the river from the Rice Bridge in the early hours of yesterday morning to try to rescue a friend.

His friend was later pulled from the river by gardaí, but searches throughout yesterday failed to find any trace of the teenager.

Lifeboats from Dunmore East and Fethard-on-Sea along with the Garda Sub-Aqua Unit and the Shannon Coastguard helicopter were all involved in yesterday's operation.
