A member of the Public Accounts Committee has said the Gardaí cannot be seen to be "an island that makes its own rules".
Independent TD Shane Ross' comments follow the Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan's appearance at the committee yesterday.
Commissioner Callinan is planning to seek legal advice about whether one whistleblower who has made allegations of corruption in the force should attend another committee hearing next week.
Independent TD Shane Ross said he expects the committee will also get legal advice.
"If he takes an injunction against us in the High Court, I assume we would defend our democratic right (to continue with the committee hearing)," he said.
"It's very important for us as democratic representatives to be able to challenge people who are as powerful as Martin Callinan and not to allow them to intimidate us and say 'Look, we're going to hold this inquiry ourselves - you accept it'."
